SHM is the BEST hatching medium for many reptile eggs needing higher humidity
without direct exposure to the moisture.
As water is added, the material changes color to indicate saturation.
As it dries out, it again changes colors. (see below)
Made of kiln fired ceramic granules,
it contains thousands of internal and external pore spaces.
This highly porous material is by far the easiest hatching medium to use.
Since it saturates with water, it turns a darker color when it is ready to use.
And better yet, when it dries out, its color lightens again and is ready for the
additional water.
Eggs are placed on the surface of the medium or partially
submerged so they are never in contact with water. Direct exposure to water can
be disastrous to many reptile eggs.
Since SHM is a baked ceramic granule, it does not break down over time. It can
be washed/sterilized and used over and over again!
Moisture in the medium
can be controlled by the amount of water allowed to stay with the material. If
more moisture is desired, after adding water, pour off less water.
Please research the species you are working with to determine the appropriate
amount of moisture required.
