After your gecko has laid her eggs there is sometimes the question whether the eggs are good. There is a way to see if there is some form of life inside the egg. It is referred to as candling. There is no guaranty that candling an egg that it is going to be a viable egg or that there is going to be a gecko at the end. So that being said make sure to incubate the egg until there is no doubt the egg is bad.
The first thing you need is an egg, then a bright small flashlight, and a dark room. Before turning off the lights, I form a tight circle with my fore-finger and my thumb so that the egg can sit there with a hole under it for the flashlight to shine through the egg. Carefully place the egg over the hole in your fingers and from underneath place the flashlight tight to your fingers so the light is going through the egg and you can see this glow a little. Once you have this and you feel comfortable that the egg isn’t going to fall, I turn off the light in the room and repeat the steps with the light only shinning through the egg. What I look for is a mass that looks something like a Cheerio and very small blood vessels. Sometimes you will only see the blood vessels. If you don’t see anything and the egg still looks good keep incubating properly and try again in another two or three days. If you still don’t see anything still keep incubating until the egg hatches or it goes bad.
This is something I do with my kids so they can see what is going on inside the egg. They get a kick out of it and so do I. Just remember to mark the top of your egg so they don’t get turned around and the top stays the at the top.
